Today my Dad and I had a visit from one of the women in the front office. She brought a letter for my Dad to sign. The letter was addressed to the Medicaid caseworker who is assigned to my Dad’s case. The letter stated that Dad’s social security income was intended to pay for myContinue reading “Another Thing”

Birthday Thoughts
I turned another year older the other day. I’m 69 years old. I feel younger than my age. I thank God for blessing me with another year of life. I’m feeling inspired to serve Him in my life, now more than ever. I don’t know what He wants me to do for Him. My homeContinue reading “Birthday Thoughts”
Dreams
As I go through my experience of nursing care, I find that the things that I want to do are somewhat curtailed. I love to eat but the menu in my nursing home is very limited. I love eating Filipino food, Thai and Indian foods. I used to make curry rice, adobo chicken and pork,Continue reading “Dreams”
Good Morning
It’s a new day. I’m ready to work on my eating. I’m retraining my muscles used for eating. I didn’t finish well all day yesterday but barely touched my food at supper. The bulk of my intake of food was breakfast and lunch, and with my feed I consumed more than the amount of caloriesContinue reading “Good Morning”
The Music Man
Yesterday my Dad and I were visited by our relatives from New Jersey. My cousin and her fiancé and her son came with lunch from a Chinese takeaway. Our reunion was good. My cousin’s fiancé is a retired piano salesman and he persuaded my Dad to play the piano in our facility. My Dad isContinue reading “The Music Man”
Nursing Home Blues
I have noticed that 99% of the patients here are confined to wheelchairs. I’m seeming to be one of the very few patients that can walk around. The nursing home is bright and airy. The nurse’s station is in a rotunda at the center of activity. There are patient rooms that are located in hallwaysContinue reading “Nursing Home Blues”
How to Eat
There are books, believe it or not, that has this title. Here at Heritage I am learning how to eat successfully. I have a speech therapist who guides me as I go through days of eating meals. But her days with me have ended. So I’m on a solo flight eating meals. The key toContinue reading “How to Eat”
Tube Feed
I’m on tube feed. A tube connects me to a pump that feeds my stomach with liquid food that’s is nutrient rich. I have been on tube feeding for over two months now. I’m now eating more easy to chew foods having graduated from puréed foods. I’m still trying out foods that are chewy. IContinue reading “Tube Feed”
At the nursing home
I’ve been incommunicado for a while. I was hospitalized a few months ago and now I’m in a nursing home. I’m doing good here but I’ve decided to stay here for the long term. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. I’m happy here. I’ve decided to keep writing on my blog andContinue reading “At the nursing home”
The persistent No. 2
By now everyone who’s read my blog knows I have constipation and yet I go every day, usually more than once. I’m beginning to think that my habitat is the bathroom. I take a generic form of Colace, which is cheaper. I take four pills because less pills make it tougher to push that turdContinue reading “The persistent No. 2”
