It’s Saturday and the weather is fine here. I thought I’d drop you a line. I called my cousin Clifford yesterday. His sister Sandra is in hospital from a stroke. I’m afraid she’s seriously ill. It was her birthday yesterday. She’s on a respirator and is asleep almost all the time. I don’t think she recognizes her brother. I pray she will recover. She’s paralyzed on the right side of her body.
The sun came out today. I feel good about it. The Christmas season brings out the best in people. It’s the time that everyone has a good outlook for the future. The New Year is on the horizon. I received a giftcard from my cousin Eileen. She’s a generous soul. She sends me meditations through Messenger. I went to Amazon to use her gift card. But I had problems getting it to work. Amazon wanted to know the cardholder name and I didn’t know till later that my name was on the card. Amazon keeps track of gift cards and they know who receives the gift card and that’s the person’s name to put on the cardholder name slot. So I finally purchased my item.
Today, I’m trying not to suffer this torment that I’m going through. I’m hypothyroid. I’ve suffered hair loss and constipation. I’m taking medicine to counter this but it has side effects. Those side effects have kept me from writing my story. I’ve got 8 chapters written. I was considering sending this to a literary agent but upon advice from someone wiser, I decided to stick to self-publishing. Literary agents have the job to present manuscripts to a number of publishing houses and if they’re lucky the job to publish is on its way to completion. However, publishing with a famous book house has its pros and cons.
For example, if my book were to be acceptable to the publisher, I would need to cooperate with them. Editing advice from the publisher is sacrosanct. So what you have in the end is a book you might not recognize. Another example, publishers want their authors to go on a book tour. I don’t like to travel and hawk my book. If published, I’d have to follow their orders to publicize my books.
That’s why I self-publish. I want to be in control of what my book is all about.
