I hear that the retirement age will go up to 68 instead of the current 66-67 years for seniors. I think that’s too long for one to work. Even in good health, going to work forty hours a week can be grueling. I understand somewhat why they’re raising the retirement – they are preserving the Social Security income for retirees. Which makes me fear that the income will be a finite one.
Lucky for those who have a part time job while retired, they have extra funds with which to live on. And more lucky are those that have 401(k)s to rest upon. For those like me, who don’t have either one to cushion the financial stress, we are buffeted by the economy. Our homes are subject to going downhill without money to help maintain it. I’m therefore on a fixed budget and dependent on the charity of relatives who sometimes send funds for birthdays, holidays and Merry Christmas days. I’ve even retired my garden, they’re full of weeds now. But for my late mother’s friend who loans her gardener to clear out the garden once a year.
I don’t know how many retirees are in my situation. I cling to Jesus Christ for His Grace and Mercy. I believe I have a purpose still in my retired years. If only to pray for this sad world.
